Justify student absences from the class Attendance tab using a dialog-based workflow
This page allows you to justify a student's absence as a homeroom teacher directly from a class's Attendance tab using a streamlined dialog. The dialog replaces inline table inputs and standardizes the user experience with shadcn components.
Prerequisites
- You are assigned as the homeroom teacher for the class.
- The class has at least one lesson selected in the Attendance tab.
- There are attendance records with students marked as absent.
Video Walkthrough

How to Use
- Navigate to My Classes via left sidebar link and open a class where you are the homeroom teacher.
- Open the Attendance tab.
- In the left list, select a Lesson to load its attendance records.
- In the table, find a row where the student is marked Absent.
- In the Actions column, click Justify absence (or Edit justification if one exists).
- In the dialog, set Justified as needed and provide a clear Justification note.
- Click Save. The dialog closes and the table refreshes automatically.
For Organization Types
Use concise, outcome-focused justifications (e.g., confirmed illness, approved competition). Keep records consistent for cohort reporting.
Include event details when absences relate to tournaments or travel; mark justified only when pre-approved by staff.
Reference guardian notes or administrative approvals when applicable; maintain short, respectful wording.
Tips
- Keep justification text specific and professional; avoid sensitive medical details.
- If you do not see the Actions column, confirm you are assigned as the class's homeroom teacher.
- The dialog shows only for absent records; present entries have no justification actions.
